We offer a variety of interesting and challenging courses and concentrations in all aspects of French Studies, including cinema, francophone cultures, critical theory, cultural studies, gender studies, linguistics and translation. Some recent course titles include Epic Muslim Encounters and Identity Politics in Quebec Literature, Film, and Popular Music.

We also offer a Certificate in Francophone Studies, not offered elsewhere.

We have one of the best teacher training programs in the country.

We use state-of-the art technology in our multi-media classrooms, high-tech on-line language labs, and the World Media and Culture Center.

We host major international conferences, including in recent years, the Sartre Symposium, the 20th and 21st century French and Francophone Studies International Colloquium, and the 19th century French Studies Colloquium (NCFS).

We host a yearly lecture series. Recent speakers include Lionel Gossman and Robert Darnton from Princeton University.

Our students enjoy a very dynamic graduate student association (FIGSA) which hosts a yearly conference.
