Why do Graduate Studies in Italian at OSU?
-
The program involves the study of the entire history of Italian literature and culture plus advanced studies in the areas of language and linguistics.
-
Since the MA program is relatively small, students can be assured of individual attention from full-time faculty.
-
Yearly seminars on topics such as The Novel of the Resistance in Italy, the History of the Italian Language, and the Poetry of Montale, allow students to study in depth a more specific topic.
-
Many students have been able to combine the two-year program in Italian Studies in the Department of French and Italian with a third year of study in the College of Education and thus graduate with both a Masters in Italian and a Masters of Education. Such graduates also earn teaching licensure.
-
GTAships are available to all MA students and personalized, careful training in Second Language Teaching is an important part of their experience.
-
We have one of the best teacher training programs in the country.
-
Our GTAs receive a very competitive financial package, which includes subsidized health care.
-
Our students enjoy a very dynamic graduate student association (FIGSA) with a yearly conference.
-
Graduate students may apply for the position of resident director of our undergraduate study abroad program in Lecce.
-
We regularly host speakers who are prominent in Italian literature and linguistics.
