Study Abroad Scholarship
Undergraduate Study Abroad Scholarships' applications are now available on-line. The deadline for student applications is January. Faculty letters of recommendation must be on file by February. For access to information and applications go to:

College Merit Scholarships will become available during winter quarter. Applications can be made starting early to mid-February.
Study Abroad Scholarships Available through OIA
If undergraduate and graduate students are looking for scholarships to fund a study abroad program, the Office of International Affairs is coordinating four grant opportunities. The deadline is usually in May. The various scholarships provide funding between $500 and $1,000 for various short-term and quarter/summer long-term study abroad programs.
Studying abroad enables students to gain a sense of independence, become more confident, and acquire valuable skills in preparation for today’s job market. Ohio State offers more than 100 programs in 40 different countries.

For Students of French or Italian
Arthur C.and Laura Bell Jahn Memorial Scholarship
Two annual prizes to be used for tuition at The Ohio State University are to be awarded to students in French or Italian who are also majoring in or taking coursework in accounting or other areas of business. Preference will be given to undergraduates at the junior or senior level who have obtained or are obtaining upper-level language skills in French or Italian. Decisions will be based on the quality of your written statement (see application), your overall GPA (and in particular performance in French or Italian courses), business courses completed, and faculty recommendations.
Amount of award: Two awards of $500
Eligibility:

OSU undergraduate students of French or Italian majoring in or taking coursework in accounting or an area of business. On your advising report, please highlight in color the courses that you have taken at the 400 level and above and all business courses that you have taken.

Italian Scholarships
There are many organizations providing scholarships for students of Italian. Here are a few:

International Fellowship
The Huntington National Bank pledged $250,000 to The Ohio State University Campaign in the form of an endowed fund to benefit humanities students interested in international business and foreign languages. Applications for the fellowship program are now available in the Foreign Language Center and the College of Humanities.
Purpose: This program is intended to permit students majoring in the humanities with interest and supporting work in international business and trade to spend an extended time abroad to enhance their fluency in the foreign language, their knowledge of the foreign culture, and their understanding of the workings and environment of international commerce.
Eligibility: Students must:
A: be sophomores or juniors at The Ohio State University at the time of the application;
B: have completed a minimum of the first two years (six quarters or four semesters) of OSU foreign language study or its equivalent prior to the study abroad experience;
C: be able to demonstrate serious interest in, commitment to, and involvement in, business, commerce, or industry.
Application: Application deadline: February. Announcement of awards: April. Application blanks and budget sheets are available in the Foreign Language Center and College of Humanities. Application requirements include: a letter of application (to “Huntington International Fellows, c/o Foreign Language Center, The Ohio State University’) that contains a statement of purpose and describes the applicant’s proposed program, transcripts of all college work, and two letters of recommendation (including at least one from a language professor). Personal interviews of finalists are required.
Program: Coordination and administration are provided by the OSU Foreign Language Center. Working with the Center, representatives of The Huntington National Bank, the appropriate OSU foreign language department, the OSU Office of International Programs, and others, the applicants will identify programs in the target country that will provide both linguistic and academic advancement as well as work or internship experiences in the formal commercial business environment.
Award: Awards of varying amounts, depending on total amount available in the account, may be used to cover travel, tuition, and living costs. Award amounts begin at $1,000.

Guidelines For Matching Support
For Existing Study Abroad Programs
Students enrolled in one of the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences (ASC) who are accepted and supported in an ASC study abroad program may apply for additional matching funds up to $500 from the Office of the Executive Dean. These funds are in the form of a scholarship; therefore, students must be enrolled full-time at Ohio State during the quarter of the award. Students may apply by submitting:
1) The application form
2) Letter of endorsement by the student’s department chair

Students who submit complete application materials will be notified of fund availability within one week of the submission of the application.
Please Note: There are limited funds available through this grant program, and they will be distributed on a first-come, first served basis. The expectation is that this special fund has the capacity to support up to 50 students over the course of the academic year.
The Wolfe Study Abroad Scholarship Endowed Fund
John F. Wolfe
The Wolfe Study Abroad Scholarship Endowed Fund was established with a $1 million gift from the Dispatch Printing Company of Columbus and has been given annually since September 1999. The Wolfe Scholarship, which is administered by the Office of International Affairs, is the cornerstone of Ohio State's study abroad programs and helps to enhance the educational experience of Ohio State students. The financial support provided by these scholarships has changed the lives of a growing number of students who have had the opportunity to participate in quarter or summer-long study abroad programs.
Since its inception, the scholarhip fund has helped 188 students from Ohio study abroad in 39 countries. Twenty-five scholarships, in the amount of $2,000 each, are awarded each year.
To receive the scholarship, students must:

Be a full-time student of sophmore, junior, or senior rank.

Have a minumum overall GPA of 2.75
-
Be an Ohio resident who has graduated from an Ohio high school.

Be admitted to an Ohio State approved quarter/summer-long study abroad program.
