Stefani Scimeca holds a B.S. in Accountancy with a minor in Italian from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During her time at Illinois, she spent a semester at Università Bocconi. Prior to her graduate studies, she had an international career, first working as a financial auditor, then as a high school English teacher in Italy.
Now in her third year, Stef's research interests include themes of oppression and resistance in Italian literature and cinema from the 20th century onward. Her interests are not limited to the modern period as she enjoys exploring these topics in Early Modern texts. Big shout out to Veronica Franco (1546-1591).
Stef is currently serving as FIGSA Treasurer for the 2023-2024 academic year. She also serves as the graduate representative to the department.
