Complicity, Dissent and the Work of Confession in Neoliberal Italy

Is dissent still possible? Is there a way out of neoliberalism’s hold over political economy and embodied experience? By now it is commonplace to speak about the death of the left in Italy and elsewhere in Europe. This talk zeroes in on leftist anxieties about the seeming impossibility of dissent in Italy and argue that such inquietude surfaces in the narrative convention of confession in recent film, theater, and fiction writing.
