Internships for Italian Studies

Many great internship experiences exist for students of French & Italian. Students in world languages are encouraged to take advantage of any opportunity which will increase their chances of success in a dynamic professional environment. More information is available through the Advanced Language Institute in the Center for Languages, Literatures, & Cultures. Other options are also on offer through the Office of Student Life. Students should consult their Academic and Faculty Advisors to identify specific opportunities and discuss what options are best for them, their programs, and career goals.

The Arts and Sciences Center for Career and Professional Success (Career Success) can help guide you toward these goals. More than resumes, Career Success provides a number of internship and job search resources including career coaching, assistance with the Ohio State University's online career network and database Handshake, and resume and cover letter review.  Career Success also hosts exciting events that help you build your network, discover new career paths, and become career ready!

Use Handshake to connect with employers by searching for full-time employment, internships, part-time work, and other experiential learning opportunities targeted toward your major. This is a direct link to employers who want to hire you!  No registration is required to access Handshake; all current undergraduates and recent graduates can access using their OSU credentials on the Handshake website.

Program

The Sant'Anna Institute offers courses and internships in many fields of study and organizations enriched by Italian language study and local Italian culture. Students may study for a summer, semester or academic year, earning from 6-15 credit hours. Students are given the option to participate in a credit-bearing internship, as well. Classrooms and professional settings enrich language skills and cultural competency, while students are also guided to participate in service learning experiences and community engagement projects. Sant’Anna Institute also encourages an experiential learning model. Lectures and discussions are complemented by class excursions to ruins like Pompeii in Archeology, local Italian companies, snorkeling in Marine Biology, and climbing Vesuvius in Volcanology.

Sant’Anna Institute is open to all OSU students. Many of the Institute’s courses and internships are offered in English; however, Ohio State requires that all students enroll in at least one Italian language course during their semester or summer program with Sant'Anna.

For a current list of course offerings and internship possibilities, please visit the Sant’Anna website: www.santannainstitute.com. All courses are subject to demand and adequate enrollment, so it is important to get additional alternate courses approved. Placements in Italian or English internships are hand selected based on each student’s application, interview, and first or secondary field of interest. Other placement possibilities may be available upon request.

For required departmental advising, contact April Weintritt at weintritt.1@osu.edu.

  • Session 2: arrive 6/30 and depart 8/3
  • Session 3: arrive 5/26 and depart 8/3 (combines Session 1 + Session 2)

Locations

The Sant’Anna Institute is located overlooking the Marina Grande of Sorrento, perched on the cliffside, with stunning views from the sea-facing windows, and it is a short walk to the harbor and the harbor-side restaurants. The Institute is located a short 15-minute walk from the center of town and 20 minutes from the Sorrento Station.
Sant’Anna occupies a stately building that houses a studio space, kitchen, student lounge, library, and student computers. In the garden, students can find lemon, orange, and kiwi trees as well as basketball courts.

Read more about the campus on the Sant'Anna website.
