What work and meanings do borders perform in the world? With an awareness of the often painful legacies of border building we turn to a range of artistic and embodied practices that are both making sense of such histories and re-imagining them in creative ways. Considering the border in its physicality and as a symbol allows us to think through different experiences of migration in conversation with a number of academic fields and creative practices.

In this two-day symposium we will explore Borders in Motion through literary narratives, dance, food studies, African studies, music, and visual art and in spaces ranging from the Mediterranean, Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran to Columbus, OH.

All are welcome!
