On Tuesday, October 30, 2018, the Department of English will host an informational open house to showcase its interdisciplinary MA in Medical Humanities and Social Sciences. The event will take place from 4-5:30 p.m. in Denney Hall 311. You are receiving this email in hopes that you might consider sharing this information with interested students, faculty, advisors and/or staff.

The MA in Medical Humanities and Social Sciences provides transformational insights into illness and treatment, death and dying, doctor-patient relationships and the institutions, practices and cultural discourses of medicine. Graduates will be well-prepared for further study in medical school or PhD programs and for employment in such fields as public health, medical-facility administration, HR benefits and the insurance industry. Possible jobs include research positions in agencies devoted to health policy, leadership positions in institutions promoting wellness and advocacy roles in health-care reform. 

Students, faculty and advising staff alike are all invited to come learn more about this innovative program which is currently accepting applications. Program Director Jim Phelan will lead the session. Phelan is a Distinguished University Professor of English, a world-renowned scholar in the field of narrative and narrative theory, and the director of Project Narrative. Program faculty, staff and current English graduate students will also be available to answer questions about the program structure, course offerings, job opportunities for graduates, the application process and cost.
