This talk is a general overview on the presence of the Italian language in Eritrea (past and present), current multilingualism and language policy, who still speaks it, the presence of the language in the linguistic landscape (as a relic), and contact between Tigrinya and Italian (borrowing, code-switching).

Dr. Franciesco Goglia is a Senior Lecturer in Italian at the University of Exeter.
