Prof. Combs-Schilling's interest in Italian culture was first sparked by the hundreds of opera performances he saw in his teenage years and he had a career as an opera critic before starting his graduate studies. In conjunction with this month's performances of Verdi's Rigoletto, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra asked him to share some of his thoughts on the opera.
