Scholarships awarded by the Department of French and Italian can support:
- Ohio State tuition for academic year 2025-26,
- and/or study abroad in Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and Spring 2027.
The objective of these awards is to help students improve their fluency in French and Italian while immersing themselves in Francophone and Italian-speaking cultures. Priority is given to applicants to such programs.
If the program for which you intend to apply does not yet have applications open (for Spring 2026, for example), you may you may simply state in your application the name of the program, its dates, and when you intend to apply. In all cases, no study abroad scholarships are disbursed until after the student provides proof of enrollment in the study abroad program to the Department of French and Italian.
Application deadline for Autumn 2025 applications: December 1, 2025.
Application deadline for Summer 2026 - Spring 2027: March 6, 2026.
Students may need to search for eligible scholarships in the ScholarshipUniverse database.

Department Scholarships
One or two prizes will be awarded annually to be used for tuition at The Ohio State University to students in French or Italian who are also majoring in or taking coursework in accounting or other areas of business. Preference will be given to undergraduates at the junior or senior level who have obtained or are obtaining upper-level language skills in French or Italian. Decisions will be based on the quality of the written statement (see application), the overall GPA, performance in French or Italian courses, business courses completed, and faculty recommendations.
Amount of award
One award of $1,500
Eligibility
- OSU undergraduate students of French or Italian or majoring in Romance Studies with French or Italian as one of their languages, who are also majoring in or taking coursework in accounting or another area of business.
- Applicant must be at the 3000-level or above in French or Italian
- Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0.
- All business courses taken should be highlighted in color on the advising report.
Established August 30, 2000, by Ronald E. Burch in honor of his grandparents through The Foundation. Income supports the Ornelio and Diamond DePietro Scholarship in the Department of French and Italian for an undergraduate with a French or Italian major preparing for a career in education, focusing on grades K-12. Income may also support a study-abroad experience. Preference is for students with need.

Study Abroad Scholarships & Funding
The Price Traveling Scholarships were created for the purpose of helping undergraduate students majoring or minoring in French, French and Francophone Studies, or Romance Studies with French as their primary language to participate in a study abroad program to help improve their fluency in French and to increase their knowledge of French or Francophone cultures. Decisions will be based on the quality of the applicant's written statement (see application), their overall GPA (and in particular performance in French courses), and faculty recommendations.
Amount of award
One $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student participating in a year-long, Ohio State-sponsored program abroad
Two-three $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate students participating in May, summer, or semester-long Ohio State-sponsored programs abroad.
Eligibility
- OSU undergraduate students majoring in French or French and Francophone Studies or minoring in French
- Students majoring in Romance Studies with French or Italian as one of their languages.
- Applicant must be at the intermediate level and have completed or currently be enrolled in French 2101
- Applicant must be accepted to an OSU-sponsored program abroad
- Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0.
