Miracle in Milan (Vittorio De Sica, 1951)

Vittorio De Sica’s comic fantasy follow-up to Bicycle Thieves, Miracle in Milan follows Totò (Francesco Golisano), a grown orphan who now lives among the poor in a Milan shantytown. When oil is discovered on the land, a rich businessman tries to evict the downtrodden residents who instead fight back (with a little supernatural help). Despite the film’s fantasy elements, Miracle in Milan is considered one of the great neo-realist masterpieces with its depiction of poverty and other social issues, and the use of real locations and non-professional actors. (101 mins, 4K DCP)

Restored from the original camera negative by Cineteca di Bologna and Compass Film, in collaboration with Mediaset, Infinity, Arthur Cohn and Variety Communications at L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory.
