Professor Lucille Toth recently published a new book entitled, Danses et pandémies: Du sida à la covid-19 (Varia Press, Dec. 2022).
When asked about the new book, Professor Toth gave us these thoughts:
Danses et pandémies: Du sida à la covid-19 examines a corpus of major choreographies that have marked the history of pandemics, mainly in France, North America, and sub-Saharan Africa. Viral dances are symptomatic of moments in history which combine epidemics of violence and social revolts. Danses et pandémies: Du sida à la covid-19 shows how viral dances allow the sick body to enter the public space, and how they generate trans-historical perspectives on dance and contamination.
Well done, Professor Toth! We look forward to your next incredible project!
