At the start of my senior year at OSU, the French department announced an opportunity to apply for the Lafayette Fellowship, which grants students one free year of Master's studies. Although I did not receive the fellowship, it was the reason I considered graduate studies in France, and I ended up being admitted to Aix-Marseille Université in Aix-en-Provence to pursue a Master of Science in International Business. The university offered a two-week intensive French language seminar before the start of the semester, which gave me the opportunity to improve my speaking skills and get to know the other international students.
I've loved meeting so many people from all over the world, as well as exploring the beautiful area. From the Calanques de Cassis to the wide range of restaurants in Marseille to the nightly markets on Cours Mirabeau, there's always something to do. Aix-en-Provence hosts many free events for the public during the summer, such as a music festival and cinema in the park. I attended a few of the free concerts and did watercolor paintings while listening. I also painted in a park near my apartment, where students can visit a historic pavilion museum for free. The peaceful city has lots to do and see within walking distance, and there are many more incredible places to visit by bus or train. As the semester continues, I look forward to discovering all the region has to offer!
