The concert will be followed by a chance to chat informally with our guest.Simone Cristicchi (composer, actor, writer) was born in Rome in 1977. His producer is Francesco Migliacci (the son of Franco Migliacci, co-author with Domenico Modugno of the song “Volare - Nel blu dipinto di blu”). During his career he has produced four albums. In March 2007, he won the Sanremo music festival (an event that offers many Italian musicians their first shot at widespread success) with his song "Ti regalerò una rosa" (I will give you a rose). The lyrics to the song are taken from papers he found that were written by a man who was in a mental hospital for most of his life. It is a sad tale of the man's struggle with being away from the woman he loves and being exiled for being mentally ill. The song has so far reached number 3 on the official Italian charts and number 1 one the official downloads chart. His most recent production in 2013 was a dramatic musical theater piece “Magazzino 18” (Warehouse 18) that was always sold out and ended in standing ovations, but also raised controversies and reflections. The topic of the musical is the forced exodus of the Italian population from Istria, Fiume, and Dalmatia as evidenced by the belongings and the memories of more than 350,000 Italian refugees stored, to this day, in Warehouse 18 in the old port of Trieste.Visit Simone’s website. All undergraduate students will receive extra credit for attending this event.
