The Department of French & Italian was proud to co-sponsor a Joint Summer School 15-18 May 2023 on Literary Materiality in the Middle Ages: how did it really work? with professors Richard Trachsler and Carmen Cardelle of the University of Zürich, Frank Coulson of Ohio State's Center for Epigraphy Studies, and Anna Grotans of Ohio State's Germanic Languages and Literatures. 25 professors and graduate student from universities in Zürich, Geneva, Paris, and Ohio State participated in sessions designed to deepen their practical understanding of medieval texts: how to examine a manuscript, how romances and epics were performed, the fashions, furs, and armor depicted in narratives, and decoding heraldry. They were delighted to discover Hagerty Hall, Thompson Library, and Columbus. We hope to welcome them again!
