The Western Sahel Student Association (WSSA) is a new group on campus dedicated to connecting and networking for African & Francophone students. We are delighted to know of the work this group does for all students and are happy to support them in their mission.
We are proud to highlight the founder and inaugural President of the WSSA - Maïmouna Ba!
Maïmouna Ba is a senior at The Ohio State University on a Pre-Dentistry path, majoring in International Studies, minoring in French, with a growing interest in public health. In the future, Maïmouna aspires to pursue a career in public health dentistry. In order to accomplish this career goal, she intends on obtaining both a DDS/DMD and an MPH after receiving her bachelor's degree. Increasing awareness of the importance around oral health is Maïmouna’s greatest motivation - especially within underserved communities.
When asked, Maïmouna had this to say about the WSSA:
The Western Sahel Student Association aims to provide a space where students of Mauritanian, Senegalese, Gambian, Malian, and Guinean descent (Western Sahel region) and those interested in the cultures of those countries to come together to meet the student’s academic, cultural, and social needs. We aspire to promote and maintain the awareness of the Western Sahel cultures on The Ohio State University campus through WSSA. The WSSA will also seek out opportunities to give back to their communities.
