Italian SITE Program 2017-18

Lombardy

The SITE Program (Study, Intercultural Training and Experience) is a paid internship program for English Teaching Assistants in the schools of the Region of Lombardy, Italy. Assistants receive a monthly stipend of 700 Euros, are required to instruct/aid 12 hours in English per week, and are expected to pursue an additional 13 hours of related activities weekly.

The 2018-2019 internship program is open to undergraduate students who have graduated or who will graduate between June 2017 and June 2018 (Italian majors and minors are preferred) and to graduate students who have completed or will complete the M.A. or Ph.D. in Italian or Italian Studies between June 2017 and June 2018. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 is required. However, students with a high GPA in Italian courses who do not meet the cumulative GPA requirement may also be considered. Other preferred criteria include prior teaching experience to non-native speakers (preferably teaching English to ESL students), and experience studying or working abroad. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, flexibility, independence, self-training and self-study skills, and the willingness and ability to step out of their comfort zone. Depending on position availability and candidate preference, the program will last from a minimum of 4 months to a maximum of 8 months.

OSU is a participating institution in the SITE program, and OSU students must apply through the department of French and Italian.  Applications must be completed by February 1. During the month of February, the department will select a candidate and one or more alternates, who will then submit an application directly to the SITE program by mid-March (exact deadline TBA). The SITE program will make its final selection from among all applicants nationwide, usually by the end of April.  Interested students should contact Dr. Ted Emery for more information.
