Mattéo Jung is a fourth-year PhD student in French and Francophone Studies at The Ohio State University, where his research sits at the intersection of critical pedagogy, hip-hop studies, and autoethnography. His dissertation examines the potential of hip-hop-based pedagogy within the French educational system, asking how hip-hop—its music, culture, practices, and forms of knowledge—can contribute to more engaging, memorable, and critically conscious learning experiences. Drawing on critical and decolonial pedagogy, his work explores how the classroom can become a space in which students are encouraged to question established forms of knowledge, connect learning to their own experiences, and recognize forms of cultural knowledge that have traditionally been marginalized within academic institutions.

His broader research interests include French and U.S. hip-hop, hip-hop-based pedagogy, critical pedagogy, childhood and trauma narratives, and Second Language Acquisition. His interest in education is also grounded in personal experience: he has spent several years both as a student and as a teacher within the French educational system and currently teaches French as a foreign language at Ohio State. As an educator, he views errors, experimentation, and play not as obstacles to learning but as essential parts of the learning process.

Mattéo holds a Master's degree in Francophone Studies from The Ohio State University, a Bachelor's degrees in International Affairs from EM Strasbourg Business School, as well as a Bachelor in Economics from l'Université de Strasbourg. His academic and professional trajectory has taken him across several countries, including Romania, Germany, France, South Korea, Ireland, and the United States. These experiences have shaped his interest in language, intercultural exchange.
