Stefani Scimeca holds a B.S. in Accountancy with a minor in Italian from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During her time at Illinois, she spent a semester at Università Bocconi. Prior to her graduate studies, she had an international career, first working as a financial auditor, then as a high school English teacher in Italy.
Now in her fourth year, Stef is a PhD Candidate. Her major candidacy exam situated vulnerability as a feminist performance aesthetic in post-1970s Italy. Looking forward, her dissertation is in the initial stages and hopes to understand how French and Italian feminist performers respond to and resist sexual violence and rape culture.
Her interests are not limited to the modern period as she enjoys exploring these topics in Early Modern texts, too. Big shout out to Veronica Franco (1546-1591).
Stef is the AY26 FIGSA President. Previously she served as treasurer for two consecutive academic years (AY23, AY24) as well as secretary for AY22.
