Stefani Scimeca holds a B.S. in Accountancy with a minor in Italian from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to her graduate studies, she had an international career, first working as a traveling financial auditor, then as a high school English teacher in Italy.
Now in her fourth year, Stef is a PhD Candidate and ABD. Her dissertation is in the initial stages and aims to understand how feminists denounce and resist rape culture's normalized gender-based violence in Italy from the 1970s until present. She also considers the same questions in the French context.
Her interests are not limited to the modern period as she enjoys exploring these topics in Early Modern texts, too. Big shout out to Veronica Franco (1546-1591).
Stef is the AY26 FIGSA President. Previously she served as treasurer for two consecutive academic years (AY23, AY24) as well as secretary for AY22.
