- Clas 1101 Intro to Classical Literature (3 hours)
Requirements for the Italian Studies Major with a concentration in Classics (30 credits)
- (3 credits) Italian 2102
- (6 credits) two 3000-level courses taught in Italian
- (3 credits) one 4000-level or above course taught in Italian
Credits for content courses (not language courses) taught in Italy that have been pre-approved by an OSU advisor may replace these content courses in Italian from the French and Italian Department.
- (6 credits) 2 courses taught in English in the Department of French and Italian of which only one course can be at the 2000-level, one at the 3000-level or above and one at the 4000-level or above.
Credits for content courses (not language courses) from any OSU approved study abroad program in Italy that have been pre-approved by the advisor may replace content courses from the French and Italian Department. (See table A below).
- (12 credits) 4 courses from the History Department selected from Table B or students may petition for a course that is not on this list. Two courses must be at the 300-level or above and two courses must be at the 4000-level or above. *Note, Italian/Classics 5051: Latin and the Romance Languages can only count for one of the two majors (Italian Studies or Classics, not both).
Students wishing to graduate with research distinction may substitute 3 credits of 4999 or 4999H: Undergraduate thesis for one course offered in English from the Department of French and Italian and 3 credits for one course from outside of the department.

Electives (15 credit hours)
At least 5 courses (15 credit hours) at or above the 2000 level are to be selected in consultation with and approved by the major advisor from Classics or from relevant courses offered by History (with a focus on Italy), History of Art (with a focus on Italy), Philosophy (Ancient Philosophy) or Theatre (Ancient History of Theatre). In exceptional cases, students may take relevant electives offered by other departments upon approval by the major advisor. *A maximum of 3 courses from outside the Departments of Classics or French and Italian may count as electives toward the major.
