Medical French

Designed especially for students interested in pursuing a variety of health professions and wishing to add value to their expertise in healthcare fields. French-American cultural relations since World War I; an exploration of French reaction to and adoption or rejection of a number of American cultural "exports," from jazz and the GI to Coke and consumerism. French Kiss

Exploration of cultural texts (stories, songs, films, paintings, photos, etc.) that represent love and sex in France, from medieval courtly love, to 18th-century libertinism, to the swinging 1960s, to dating apps and the #Me Too movement. French Center of Excellence Colloquium

Students will attend lectures and discussions organized around the visits of four to six French or Francophone writers and scholars invited by the Department of French and Italian's Center of Excellence each semester. Students will learn about the contemporary artistic and intellectual landscape of the French-speaking world and meet those who are currently shaping it. Prereq: Grad standing; or 3101 or equivalent. ITALIAN 2057

Modern Italian Migrations

This course addresses how belonging in contemporary Italy - juridical, social, economic - is intrinsically defined by race. Students interrogate Italian-ness as a racialized identity, as well as how gender and ethnicity contribute to the construction of racial identity. This course familiarizes students with the adaptability and influence of romance storytelling, from its medieval foundations (King Arthur) to its continued popularity in different forms (fantasy, science fiction, romance novels).
